Parenting Night: Raising Voices – Yes/No
November 3, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pmFree
After a training session, a Teacher said to me, “I have never raised my voice against my students, and I never will.”
He looked really proud of himself!
“Nice! How would you handle a screaming class where no one can hear you?”
“I’d smack the tables with a ruler to get their attention.”
“Alright. What if a student is spraying hand sanitizer into his friend’s eyes?”
“Well, I would try to pull him away.” I was amused to see his face turning pink.
“Alright, what if you see a student about to walk into an incoming lorry?”
“Teacher Kean, what is your point?” Oh no, voice levels rising. “Obviously, it depends on the situation!”
“Yes, I think so too.”
Perhaps a lot of apprehension towards raised voices comes from the notion that LOUD = ANGRY.
Let’s talk about it! Doktor Eric Siew and I will be organizing a #parenting session. Join us next Tuesday, I promise I won’t yell at Dr. Eric.
Well maybe, if he’s about to walk into an incoming lorry 🙂
